Creating Guidelines for Best Practices in Theatre

Creating Guidelines for Best Practices in Theatre

Creating Guidelines for Best Practices with reference to existing practices and law

Coordinator: Pravin KP Consultant: Lawrence Liang, Devika Mohan

Phase 1 :

Primary Objective:

To arrive at an understanding of the issues of Copyright and Creative Commons (including Copyleft) in terms of their impact on and their relevance to theatre as practised in India. Collated material presented to Core Team members.

Secondary Objectives:

Distributing the information as a file of facts and FAQ’s answered to the larger theatre community in India, through collated documents in order to generate discussion and build opinion. Opinions of playwrights, the law community and other theatre practitioners will be heard at a Forum organised for the purpose.

Phase 2 :

Tertiary Objective:

Publication of Guidelines – English version A “Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use” type of document, including the file of facts, FAQ’s answered, etc. will be published as a handbook for theatre practitioners. This will be translated into 5 other Indian languages and 500 copies of each will be printed as a first run, to be distributed free of cost to the ITF list. The information will also be available on the forum Website. Further action would entail encouraging local, regional discussions by theatre communities, perhaps mentored by the ITF.
